STARTING POINT
Follow our 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 6.2L L87 Procharger Project Truck. We start off with a brand new 2021 Chevrolet 1500 6.2L L87 V8 (LT1 with longer stroke) and a silky smooth 10 Speed Allison Transmission. You can also keep up to the newest updates via our Facebook Page
With only 263k’s on the clock we ramped it to see what it runs stock – 281RWHP out of the 6.2L L87 V8 1500 Chev Silverado. To be fair she would be pretty tight still, so the numbers will only increase from here. You can check out our dyno results HERE
Power, Torque and Skids aside, it’s so much nicer to drive than the 2018 2500HD. 10 Speed trans is sweet, but holding a good run on the dyno is tricky (at best)
Oddly the interior is way roomier than the 2500, tray space is sacrificed for this but I’m cool with that. It’s much better appointed than the 2500 and the techy stuff us guys love is there in droves. Seriously, you need to read the manual for this truck – take it into the toilet with you, when you read it you’ll find out all the cool shit the truck can do.
Braked towing capacity for this beast is 4500kg compared with the Midnight Edition 2500HD’s 3500kg which doesn’t make sense but is a good thing.
Next week we start to get in the performance parts – we’ll keep you up to date.
WHEEL & TYRE PACKAGE
Our new 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 kicks off the modifying journey with a new set of 12×9 KMC MESA’s with 0mm offset and a set of the awesome looking and remarkably quiet Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
Just enough poke without being ridiculously offensive to the authorities, an not needed flared guards. It totally changes the look of the truck and actually makes the chrome bearable.
I think a big Brembo brake package behind those wheels would make it pop a bit more too
BDS SUSPENSION 3.5″ DSC COILOVER LIFT KIT
We love our new 2021 Chevy 1500 Silverado, but stock, with all that chrome and the stock shiny wheels, it kinda looks a bit too – mature? Installing some nice zero offset KMC rims and Nitto Ridge Grapplers tires fixed that by adding a good amount of black/chrome balance.
We then installed an awesome 3.5″ BDS Suspension Lift Kit with DSC FOX Shock Absorbers. There was a little tire rubbing before the lift was fitted but now none. It presents a much tougher stance on the road without being too outrageous and attracting trouble from the compliance squad.

MINOR BOLT ON MODS & CUSTOM DYNO TUNE RESULTS
When we finally got our modified ECU back from HPTuners it was time to install the new AFe Cold Air Intake and a MBRP Cat Back Exhaust.
Being basically the same naturally aspirated 6.2L L87 V8, we weren’t expecting too much, and the new E90 ECU combined with a relatively high static compression ratio of 11.5:1 we were super happy with the gains of 288 – 310 Rear Wheel Hp and 50Nm extra torque.
She now sounded like a real V8 should without droning when cruising. Kinda like the new L5P Duramax Diesel PCM deal, we needed to send our stock ECU to HPTuners (USA) so that can modify and unlock it to enable us to tune it.

PROCHARGER WITH CAT BACK EXHAUST
We’re nearly at the end of our 2021 Silverado 1500 Engine Mods, next will be headers and 3″ Y-Pipes. Our totally stock 6.2 L87 started at 288hp, so getting to 406hp on a stock Procharger setup (cat-back exhaust only) so far isn’t a bad deal.
The upgraded Procharger P-1X unit pumps out 10psi @6000RPM. We just spent the Easter long weekend towing our 3.5T caravan around the hills of Bridgetown, the extra 200Nm of torque and 10-speed auto kept the big girl around 1100rpm towing the van at 105km/hr drinking less fuel than a 200 Series Landcruiser – I’ve owned both and would choose the new generation Silverado any day. It’s not as sure-footed as 2500HD but much better than anything else available here.
Just the MBRP cat-back exhaust makes it sound tougher than 90% of the 4WD’s out there!

Did you gap the rings for 10 psi of boost for the 2021 sliverado 6.2l?
Can you send tune copy for replica set up?
Hi Eric, no – the standard 4″ procharger pulley makes 12psi and we havent needed to pull the engine down to gap rings – done 11000 clicks now with the setup and its taken some punishment in the dunes no problems. I’m thinking of dropping pulley size to get it making boost a little earlier for towing 🙂
